: i remember when kim the younger, kim jong-un, became the new leader. we didn't even have a picture that was less than five years old. but more importantly, who is pulling his strings? do we know? >> the danger is that the hardline elements of the north korean military is -- he has an uncle that is not very pro engagement, pro u.s. the danger is that they're pulling his strengths and he is allowing them to do that. what i do think is happening is kim jong-un and his people think he has to strengthen himself because he is so young and inexperienced with his own people. so, maybe a lot of this bluster is to show his own people he is in charge, that the missile launch was successful. the one they did a couple of months ago. but it's amazing what we don't know about this guy, and this is why i think it's important that somehow down the line we engage him with diplomacy, but backed up with a few sticks. like the chinese could help more than they're helpings. >> shepard: the south koreans ended the crease fire that put the war on hold. how concerned are the south koreans about this guy? >

on the united states. the dictator there kim jong un, kim the younger releasing new photographs of his military strategy meetings. these pictures show him in some kind of war room, generals at his side and what looks like anpple i mac on his desk. on the wall a map that appears to show a diagram of missile roots targeting hawaii, los angeles, washington, d.c., and austin, texas. soldiers and students showed up in a rally in the capital to support kim jong un's threat. [chanting] that i'm told translates to death to america. echo reports north korean state television which quoted the dictator as saying his missiles are ready to settle accounts with the united states. he also reportedly signed orders placing his military forces on stand by. all of this comes one day after american stealth bombers flew over south korea, dropping dummy bombs as part of a training exercise. and as a reminder of the overwhelming peter of the u.s. military. obviously little kim, kim the younger has to know that launching rockets at the united states would be suicide. but the concern is that he might have no choice. ju

this is a well-worn pattern of bellicose threats of north korea's young leader, kim jong-un who warned his artillery and rocket forces have entered a combat posture. the u.s. military is concerned about anything that might destabilize the area. and that he's taking rhetoric where it shouldn't go. and the new provocation plan, but would create a better combined structure between the u.s. and south koreans. and the u.s. is concerned because of advances in north korean long range rocket technology as evidenced by this satellite launch in december. its he row sent nuclear tests and now today's threat to place 20,000 long range artillery units on high alert. the u.s. and south korea are caring out their annual military exercises until april 30th and the pentagon is concerned that after those exercises end, that kim jong-un will be forced to do something provocative to show that these are not empty threats. during the current exercises the u.s. military has flown b-52 flights over north korea. the recent on march 25th, yesterday, according to the pentagon and remember they're capable of carrying
